Our mission is to foster a maker-mindset in youth and inspire the next generation of innovators.
We believe that values create mini goals that keep us focused on our mission statement. Goals can also inspire and motivate - at least ours sure do!
Check out the values that guide our path:
We believe that curiousity is about noticing. It’s about seeing the familiar but looking at it differently. Curiousity is about being in the present moment, being observant, and asking questions. We believe that being curious makes us feel alive and engaged in our lives. As said by Alice in Alice in Wonderland, “Sometimes I’ve believed as many as 6 impossible things before breakfast”: we believe curiousity opens us up to new possibilities and brings excitement into our lives. We believe that while all youth are natural born makers, innovation can not be forced: it comes from curiousity and having the freedom to explore.
2. A Problem-Solving Approach to Life
We believe that innovation can take place anywhere, but we want to provide a dedicated location that encourages and supports innovative ideas and leads youth into extraordinary projects. Accordingly, our lesson plans are designed to support student creativity and problem solving. We strive to offer a wide range of courses so that students can work on what they are passionate about.
We believe in coupling foundational knowledge with real-life skills so that youth develop a substantial skill-set that enables their ability to Make and Create.
We believe that everyone can Make, and that everyone has unique skills and ideas to contribute. The ability to work independently is balanced with collaboration and team work. When we work together we build our communication skills, we teach others by sharing our ideas, we learn from others when they share their ideas, and we feel encouraged and supported.
We believe learning can be fun, engaging, and practical.
6. Failure is a Necessary aspect of Success
We believe in persisting in the face of failure because failing provides us with valuable information. “Making is about failing as much as it is about creating.” Therefore, we set out to redefining success: every mistake we make provides us with valuable information that actually moves us closer to our goals. Every creation we make, regardless of outcome, teaches us what to do differently next time. In order to succeed, we inevitably must fail.
7. Just Make
We do not strive to define making in any sort of limited terms. Making is not constrained by a single definition. We believe you just have to jump in, get your hands dirty, and try new things.
